Now get this—most of Canada's refineries were built to process LIGHT crude, but what does Alberta produce? HEAVY crude from the oil sands!

So instead of upgrading their refineries (which would cost billions but CREATE THOUSANDS OF JOBS), what do they do? Ship the heavy crude to specialized U.S. refineries in the Gulf Coast, then BUY BACK the refined products at PREMIUM PRICES!
